Wow! Just tried one or your 8mm pins this afternoon that a student of mine received. It was fantastic! I am playing on an older Italian Cello (P. Ventapane) and have been looking for ways of helping the projection and tone. Aside from a recent restoration, this end pin is the best thing yet.

I was using the regular carbon fiber endpin but after putting in the woven hollow endpin I noticed my bass opened up and became more resonant. I think that from farther away in a concert hall, that extra resonance translates to a bigger and more open sound. I would definitely recommend it!

Just wanted to drop you a note on an amazing product. The endpin is great! No slippage issues just as you mentioned, and no annoying buzz like the previous endpin. Also, it’s a real breeze extending and retracting the pin. Strangely enough, I think the endpin opened up the tone of my bass a little. It sounds a bit louder, with a more immediate response, but with a little less “low end bloom.” Pretty nice, though I will have to let the bass get settled in a bit with the new fittings to see how it turns out. So far, things seem good! Thanks for a fine product!

I was shocked how much it did change the cello, primarily on the mid and upper end. It opened my cello up considerably.

Just wanted to send a quick thank you for your excellent products-I have two of your endpins in use, one since 2009 and the other since 2003! Knock on wood there has never been a mechanical failure with either and the pins are still sharp. Thanks again.

I have been using the New Harmony hollow carbon fibre endpin/plug and rubber ball end combination on my double bass for three weeks. I used other cheaper imported versions of this before but had problems with my bass slipping down the endpin no matter how much I was able to tighten it. The New Harmony unit has solved my problem. The collar inside the plug tightens easily and effectively and I have had no slippage whatsoever…even when I deliberately tried to push the bass down the rod. This is an extremely well-made product at a very reasonable price. There is also an additional benefit because my bass sounds cleaner and has a noticeably more full sound than before. I highly recommend this endpin unit.

We received the 10mm endpin you shipped (and yes, the “bottom” end is quite sharp, by the way). It’s obviously true that whenever one makes a change, they wish it to be an improvement. Sometimes, one wonders if there really IS a change, or if it’s just self-fullfilling expectation. In the case of your endpin, however, my son and I really feel that there is an improvement in the “resonance” and fullness of tone, especially on the A and D. We switched the new and old pins back and forth for comparison purposes, and we both came to the same conclusion. So, consider this note a very positive response to your product.

I just got the end pin fitting/rod today, and let me just say BRAVO to you! What a gorgeous fitting that is – easily equal to the finest I have ever seen and certainly elegant enough for the finest cellos. What a fantastic product and I applaud you.

We set up a lot of cellos that we sell with the 5-degree fitting. It is more comfortable, it allows you to get a bit more “horizontal” without the extreme of the 25-degree Stahlhammer endpin. Some teachers recommend it for their tall students as it allows them to put the tip a tad closer — cello is a game of subtleties.

I tried them as well – LOVED IT !!! I replaced a 7g or 9g weight “old fashioned” brass/rubber & screw suppressor – not sure, don’t have an accurate scale here with the New Harmony Music suppressor. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Not only was the wolf ELIMINATED, but the cello’s voice began projecting like never before – the entire cello body was vibrating – I could feel it through my ample padding – darn KK’s!

I’ve experimented with two – the 7g & 11g. The 7g is exactly what I need for “regular” orchestral work. The 11g is just what I need right now for some special work I’m doing in Trio work and a Chamber group – helps to “tone down”/mellow/take the “edge” off my cello – I blend in better with the smaller group. I know that’s not the original purpose, but it does exactly what I need. The aesthetics are pleasing as well – they look like mini sculptures. I have entertained myself during long measures of rests by admiring them. Thank You, Marc Salter!!! You’ve covered all the bases. LOL!

I received the end pin yesterday. I was astounded in the difference in weight between your end pin and the usual steel one. Steel end pins may go the way of the dodo. Please send three more!

Colin’s cello sounds much improved with your end pin … unambiguously better. Sound is hard to put into words, but I’ll try anyway: more sophisticated, mellower, like an older cello – it is about a hundred years old anyway, but it never quite sounded its age, some of the harshness is gone. It doesn’t scream any more. All the changes are subtle of course, but they all form a pattern that’s just nice. Good product, good service. Thank you.

I love the carbon fiber end pin. It actually took my cello another step in the quest for tone (It eliminated the high ringing harmonic on the lower notes).

My experience with the pin was very interesting – heard a lot of change in the quality of sound from the instruments on which I tried it – and had a lot of cellists and bass players interested in the experiment – but because I’m too tall to use it, I ended up selling the pin to my stand partner! I can tell you, without hesitation, that she is extremely happy with the end pin – both with the sound enhancement and the weight comfort.

I do notice a little more clarity in high thumb position notes – as in the slow movement of the Dvorak, and a little more balance between the thumb position notes on the D and A strings – so the D string (and G-string) high notes are enhanced, even on this cello. Also the double stop harmonic (last note of the movement) is stronger than it has been.

The two end pins arrived in the mail Wednesday. I put one in my cello and gave the other to my friend. We both love them. It is so light that it’s as if the cello didn’t have an end pin. The sharp metal point is also impressive. I believe the tone is improved, similar to when I play with my old metal rod removed completely–the tone is opened up and clearer.

My first impression was an increased resonance of the wood of the cello over all strings, especially in the lower registers. The instrument has good low frequency response, due, I think from the solid poplar back. There was greater wood resonance than before (with the steel pin) on the open D string, and F and F# on the D! … All in all, I am very pleased with your new carbon fiber end pin. Continue the good work!

The new end pin has greatly improved the sound of my cello. I am now ready for the fitting you suggested.

My second luthier, who loves working on cellos and basses, was impressed with the endpins. He will be installing one of the bass pins into his own bass when he finishes making it. You will hear from us again!

We really like the improved wolf tone eliminators. I think this solves a lot of (potential) problems some players might encounter. First, it’s a LOT easier to install. Easiness in adjusting the position is almost the same as the original one. Detaching it completely is a lot harder. So I can see how the risk of potential buzzing, if there has been any, caused by partially lifted suppressor will be gone. To detach it, the string has to be bent not possible by natural movement, so accidental removal due to vibration or what not won’t happen (of course unless the string tension is gone but that’s unrelated) So, overall I think it’s a remarkable improvement!

My head luthier was very pleased with the wolf eliminators. He was working with a particularly difficult ½ size cello and none of the normal weights worked. Yours were far more precise.

I have been having some problems with a new VIOLA that I had made for me and am pretty much in love with. The problem is the short end of the D string is not damped across any other pegs in the pegbox and it is free to vibrate. As luck would have it it is tuned exactly a tritone and a couple of octaves above open A. This sets up a very strange vibration on open A that causes the note to break up and go crazy especially when tuning. I had tried a small mute and a conventional wolf eliminator to some effect but they caused the upper two strings to be much less resonate. Your 1 gram wolf eliminator is like a magic bullet for this problem. Very small and elegant and very easy to put on and adjust. Thank You for Your Fine Work!

I ordered one and installed it this morning (on my Jay-Haide cello). This really is a superior product. It is easy to install. It is easy to adjust. It is attractive enough to be a sculpture. It preserves or even enhances the tone of the cello. Most importantly, it “traps” the wolf and allows one to move it very precisely away from interfering with playing and the sound of the cello. I ordered a 9 gram suppressor, because it is about the same mass as my previous brass/rubber suppressors. There is really no comparison in both the effectiveness of the two types or the precision of eliminating the wolf. With the New Harmony Music suppressor, I can actually track the wolf moving to different neighboring notes until it disappears (or hides between notes). The response of the lower strings seems to be much better than it had been with the other suppressor(s). After installing this wolf suppressor, the upper half of my C string is quite playable and “toneful” and, in that respect, equal or even superior to some pretty pricey cellos I have tried. I mount it on the C string after-length, as I have other suppressors for about 4 years. I have found this more effective than on the G string and it doesn’t get in the way of using a two-hole Tourte mute. I intend to get two more to use on my other cellos as well.
