Our Innovation
We produce complete solid and hollow carbon fiber and various metal end pins with fittings (collars), wolf note eliminators (suppressors), bass bridge adjusters, tail gut loops, and more.
All products are manufactured and assembled by hand in the United States. Our products are the high-quality expected by professional musicians, yet affordable enough to be used by students.

Detailed product information
Carbon fiber end pins have several advantages:
- Weight–a cello’s standard 20-inch, 8 mm steel end pin weighs 201 grams. In comparison, our carbon fiber 20-inch end pin weighs a mere 42 grams. That is a 79 percent difference!
- Our carbon fiber end pins are made with a sharpened heat-treated metal tip or an exchangeable carbide tip. The entire tip is heat-treated so it can be sharpened many times. If a carbide tip breaks, it can be replaced. The points on both the heat hardened tips and carbide tips are very sharp and hold with out slipping.
- End pins absorb energy generated by bowing, and it is logical that a heavy steel end pin will absorb more energy than a carbon fiber end pin. We believe that a carbon fiber end pin does have a positive effect on the sound produced by a cello and double bass. We have many endorsements from cellists using our end pins supporting this belief. However, sound is subjective, and only scientific research could measure positive and any negative effects for each individual string instrument.
Cello End Pins: Our carbon fiber end pins for cellos are manufactured in two diameters. Most of the carbon fiber end pins we sell are 10 mm, although some cellists prefer our 8 mm diameter. If an end pin longer than 20 inches is required, we recommend our 10 mm diameter carbon fiber end pins because they are stiffer than the 8 mm diameter carbon fiber end pin. Longer end pins can be ordered in 24 and 28 inch lengths (28 inch often used with the angled fitting). The 8 mm carbon fiber end pin is slightly more flexible than a steel rod. Both our 8 and 10 mm end pins can be used in fittings that originally used hollow steel or aluminum end pins. However, the thumb screw used in many of these fittings presses directly against the surface of the steel rod. If the thumb screw in these fittings is tightened excessively it will eventually damage the surface of a carbon fiber end pin. With care, a carbon fiber end pin can be used for years in a standard cello end pin fitting. Weight for the 10mm solid rod is 2.3oz and the hollow tube is 1.6oz including the tip.
Bass End Pins: We also make carbon fiber end pins both Solid and Hollow rods for double bass that are 1/2 inch in diameter and standard 16 inch length. We also make both Solid and Hollow complete assemblies in the 5/8 inch diameter. These end pins have a sharp heat hardened tip with threads. To complete this end pin, we add a round rubberball with a specific density and a plastic threaded insert is screwed onto the end pin tip (see rubber ball and plastic insert below). Custom sizes are available for the solid rod bass end pins only up to 25 inches. Weight for the solid bass rod is 3.4oz and the hollow bass tube is 1.7oz including the tip.

The fittings, commonly referred to as plugs, are designed for 8 and 10 mm end pins for cello and the 1/2 inch (12.7mm) diameter end pin for bass. These fittings hold the end pin firmly, and will not damage the carbon fiber rod when the thumb screw is tightened. Our fittings are guaranteed not to slip on the end pin. Unlike many end pin fittings supplied with other carbon fiber end pins, our fitting is compact and has a shape similar to standard end pin fittings. Our fittings are made from a material that prevents any bending from the pull of the tail loop. The tapered portion of our cello end pin fittings is made in three diameters so a fitting size can be selected that best fits a specific cello. The diameters at the large end of the tapered portion of the three sizes are 23.5 mm, 25.5 mm, and 27.5 mm. Our fittings are almost indistinguishable from ebony, without all of the problems associated with wood such as shrinking, swelling, cracking, and rattling.
Cello fittings are made in three diameters – measured at the large end of the taper, our fittings are: Small – 23.5 mm, Medium – 25.5 mm, and Large -27.5 mm.
Cello angled fittings are made with a 6 degree down angle and made only in the large diameter – 27.5 mm.
Bass fittings come in two sizes: standard 31mm measured at the large end of the taper and 33mm now available for special applications and are used with 1/2 inch rods.
***Improved Wolf Note Suppressors that adhere to the string better – available now. Same look, same application, stronger bond. Wolf notes are a problem for almost all cellos, many basses, and a few violins and violas. However, the severity of a wolf note varies with each instrument. The wolf note of some cellos is minor, while others seem almost uncontrollable. Our wolf note suppressors have several advantages. The first is that we provide wolf note suppressors in several different weights (3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 gm for cello), (16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 gm for double bass), and (1, 2, 3 gm) for violin and viola. The multiple weights allow the selection of the lightest weight necessary to eliminate the wolf note. A second advantage is that our design eliminates the need for a rubber liner, thumb screw, and a lock nut found on other wolf note suppressors that mount on a string. Installation is simple. The suppressor is pressed onto the string starting at one end of the slot. The suppressor can then be removed and replaced on the string until a position that best suppresses the wolf note. Our wolf note suppressor stays in place, but is easy to readjust if the wolf moves because of humidity changes, etc. In addition to their ease of use, possibly the most important advantage is that the New Harmony wolf note suppressors have minimal or no noticeable effect on the sound of the entire instrument, possibly because there is a direct contact between the string and the brass of our wolf note suppressor.
